This Privacy Policy explains how Kitchin, Inc. (“Kitchin”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Kitchin mobile app and website (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

• We collect the minimum we need to make Kitchin work — your account, the recipes you save, and your cooking preferences.
• We never sell your personal data, and we don't run third-party advertising.
• Your recipes are private to you and anyone you explicitly share a household with.
• You can export or delete your data at any time.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account details — your name, email address, and password (stored hashed).
• Recipe content — links, photos, screenshots, handwritten notes, and text you import or create.
• Preferences — dietary needs, allergies, cuisines, household size, and units.
• Support messages — anything you send us when you contact support.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data — features used, screens viewed, and diagnostic/crash logs.
• Device data — device model, operating system, and app version.

We do not access your camera roll, microphone, or clipboard except when you actively use a feature that requires it (for example, importing a photo or cooking hands-free), and only for that purpose.

2. How we use information

• To provide core features — importing, cleaning, organising, planning, and cooking with your recipes.
• To power AI features such as recipe parsing, meal plans, remixes, and voice cooking.
• To personalise suggestions based on your tastes and pantry.
• To maintain security, prevent abuse, and fix bugs.
• To communicate with you about your account, updates, and support.

3. AI processing

When you import a recipe or use an AI feature, the relevant content is processed by our models and trusted AI infrastructure providers to produce a clean, structured result. We do not use your private recipe content to train third-party advertising models, and content sent to providers is handled under contractual confidentiality and retention limits.

4. How we share information

We share information only in these limited cases:

• Service providers — hosting, storage, analytics, and AI processing partners who act on our instructions.
• Household sharing — when you invite others to a shared household, they see shared recipes, plans, and lists.
• Legal reasons — when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.
• Business transfers — as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete content or your account, we remove it from active systems promptly and from backups within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records for legal or security reasons.

6. Your rights and choices

• Access & export — download a copy of your recipes and data from in-app settings.
• Correction — edit your account details and preferences at any time.
• Deletion — delete individual recipes or your entire account.
• Communications — opt out of non-essential emails via the unsubscribe link.

Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights such as objecting to certain processing or lodging a complaint with a regulator. To exercise any right, contact us at privacy@kitchin.app.

7. Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular reviews. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep your library safe and will notify you of any breach that affects you as required by law.

8. Children

Kitchin is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

9. International transfers

We may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where we do, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email and update the date at the top of this page.
